Timing, and Taking Things As They Are...

Let’s be honest: life doesn’t always give a damn about your plans. You can have everything lined up perfectly, all the pieces in place, and then boom — things go sideways. Maybe it’s a delay, maybe it’s a complete debacle, but either way, it throws you off. And when that happens, it’s easy to get stuck in the frustration of “this isn’t how it’s supposed to go…” or, “it's Not F Fair…” Right?

Well, here’s the thing — life rarely goes exactly how you expect. So, what do you do when things don’t go according to plan? You adapt! You pivot! You take things as they are, not as you wish they were. That’s where the real power lies — in how you respond when things don’t line up the way you thought they would, you proact.

First off, you’ve got to stop wasting energy on trying to control what you can’t. There’s only so much in your hands. The Big Guy up there got that under control, believe me. You can control your actions, your attitude, how hard you work, and how you handle setbacks. That’s it. Everything else? It’s out of your control. When you waste time obsessing over what’s outside your reach, all you’re doing is burning yourself out.

What you can do is accept the reality in front of you. Not in some passive“oh well, I guess this is it”kind of way, but in a way that says,“Alright, this is what’s happening, so now what?”When you accept the situation for what it is, you put yourself back in the driver’s seat. You stop fighting against what’s already happened and start figuring out what you can do next.

Now, let’s talk about patience. You don’t need me to tell you that life is full of waiting (at the store, for deliveries, for the kids to get ready, to come out to go to school for the wife and more and more waiting which is a big part of life), and if you can’t handle waiting, you’re going to have a hard time. But here’s the thing: patience isn’t about sitting around and doing nothing. It’s about staying steady & ready, staying focused, and keeping your head in the game even when things are taking longer than you want. Sure, sometimes life throws you a delay, but that doesn’t mean it’s a dead end. The only way you lose is if you quit. Timing and Taking Things As They Are and not what we think should be.

But even when things seem to go off track, they aren’t always the disaster they seem. Most of the time, when things fall apart, it’s not because you’re failing — it’s because life’s pushing you in a different direction. And yeah, sometimes that direction sucks at first, but that’s where you’ve got to trust that there’s something to be learned. Not in some fake “everything happens for a reason” kind of way, but because when you’re forced out of your comfort zone, that’s when you grow. It’s the struggle that sharpens you, not the easy wins.

So, if you’re looking at a setback, try asking yourself, “What can I take from this?” Instead of focusing on what went wrong, focus on what’s next. Setbacks are a part of the process. They don’t define you — how you handle them does!

We also need to get real about uncertainty. No one likes not knowing what’s coming next. We want the guarantee, the roadmap, the certainty. But here’s the hard truth: certainty doesn’t exist. Life is messy and unpredictable, and the sooner you get comfortable with that, the better off you’ll be. When you stop needing to know every step in advance, you can finally move forward, even when you don’t have all the answers. That’s freedom— when you let go of the need for everything to make sense and just do the best with what’s in front of you.

Being flexible is part of that, too. It’s easy to think that if you just push hard enough, things will go your way. But sometimes, it’s not about pushing harder — it’s about shifting direction. Because if you are driving in the wrong direction going faster will not take you the right way. When things don’t go the way you expected, it’s not a sign that you’re on the wrong path. It’s a sign that you need to adjust.Staying rigidin your thinking will only wear you down. Be flexible. Be willing to adapt. That’s how you stay in the game.

Gratitude might seem like the last thing you want to think about when life is testing you, but here’s why it matters: if all you ever focus on is what’s not going right, you’re going to miss what is. Even in the middle of a mess, there’s always something going for you. Focusing on that isn’t about being naive — it’s about keeping your head in the right place so you can keep moving forward.Don’t let frustration blind youto the progress you’ve already made.

Finally, cut yourself some slack. You’re going to hit bumps. You’re going to feel knocked down. But being hard on yourself doesn’t make you tougher — it just drains your energy. Self-compassion isn’t weakness. It’s recognizing that you’re human and giving yourself the space to breathe when things get hard. That space is where you recharge, where you regain your focus, so you can get back up and keep going. Get your Mojo Back (see ‘He said I Said’).

At the end of the day, life’s not about everything going smoothly — it’s about how you handle it when things don’t. Taking things as they are doesn’t mean lowering your standards. It means acknowledging the reality in front of you and still pushing forward. It means adapting, growing, and learning from every curveball thrown your way. That’s where real strength comes from — not in forcing life to fit your plans, but in becoming the kind of person who thrives no matter what life throws at them. Be Like water, flow and never stop.
